Women’s sports is a movement not a moment. The women’s basketball tourney far outpaced the men in TV viewership, and we’ve entered what some are calling a golden era of female sports superstars. And while it seems official that Everyone Watches Women’s Sports, it’s about more than that—it’s about the idea that by watching sports, you believe you have a place on the field, too. Women in particular are 49% more likely than men to attest that exercise helps reduce feelings of loneliness, and nearly 50% of women agree that planning a group run, ride, or workout helps them get out of a rut. With that in mind, we’re drawing inspiration from women who have made bold moves in sports and built powerful communities along the way.
